Form:


The simple present tense is usually the same as the infinitive. But for third person singular ( he, she, and it), the verb ends in -s. Ma no other changes for plural.

examples:
  • he/she/it........................ works (singular)
  • he/she/it........................ eats (singular)
  • he/she/ it ...................... reads (singular)

Spelling: Look at the way these verbs change:

        Ending in x, ss, ch, sh, o.

I fix...............................................> she fixes
I miss............................................> he misses
I watch..........................................> she watches
I finish...........................................> she finishes
I do ...............................................> it does

        Ending in ry, ly , dy.

I try ..............................................> he tries
I study...........................................> he studies
I carry............................................> she carries
I worry...........................................>he worries
i fly................................................> it flies


Using:
  1. We use the simple present tense to talk about routines and things we do everyday.
           To express routines by using simple present, here is example:

  • Mr. Santoso is a commuter . he drives to the station everyweekday and takes the train to Jakarta. when he arrives, he ussually walks to the office, but if the weather is bad, he gets a taxi.
      2. We use the simple present tense to talk about the fact and things that are always true.

          To express fact by using simple present, here is example:
  • Google Classroom is a free web service, developed by Google for schools, that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students.


Types of simple present tense sentences

Simple Present Tense Affirmative.

To form simple present tense affirmative, The formula:

         S + Verb (1) / Verb infinitive/ to be (is, am, are) + O

Here are examples:
  • Susi Pudjiastuti is the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
  • She reads Harry Potter book everyday.
  • They watch new Bollywood movies every sunday.

Simple Present Tense Negative

To form  simple present tense  negative, we commonly use  don't or does before verb. except auxiliary or tobe.

         S + Don’t / Doesn’t + Verb (1) + O

If  verb is To Be,  So the formula become:

         S + (is, am, are) + not + O

Here are examples:
  • Susi Pudjiastuti is not the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
  • She doesn’t read Harry Potter book everyday.
  • They don’t watch new movies every sunday.

Simple Present Tense Interogative


Simple Present Tense Interogative or question sentence, commonly use do or does before subject. the formula is:

           Do / Does + S + Verb 1 + O


We use do if   the subjects are I, you, they, or we. but,  does is using if the subject  (She, He, It).

Here are examples: :
  • Does she read some Harry potter book ?
  • Do they watch Bollywood movie everyday ?
  • Do you do excercise every morning ?

If verb is  To Be or  Modal, So do not use  do or  does.

Here are examples:
  • Is Susi Pudjiastuti the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries ?
  • Are you new staff of International Paint office ?
  • Are they students of Muhammadiyah University of Buton?
